Tasting Notes Drink:

Thierry Amirault studied at Beaune before setting up this estate at the heart of St Nicolas de Bourgueil, in Touraine. Today the Domaine has some 25 hectares of vines, with Cabernet Franc now joined by just over a hectare of Chenin Blanc, planted on gravel and siliceous soils that trap the heat of the sun. This exceptional red wine from Touraine is made from 30-year-old Cabernet Franc vines grown on gravel soils in a warm micro-climate. The colour is an unexpectedly deep purple, and the bouquet combines black fruits and spice. This ripe Cabernet Franc shows the special intense character of old vines, a powerful, rich palate, balanced with a freshness of fruit and a satisfyingly rich finish.

Pair with: Strong complex cheese.

Our Perfect Cheeseboard: Beaufort, Valdeón Picos Blue or Ribblesdale Blue, Isle of Mull Cheddar, Oxford Isis, Miller’s Toast, Fig & Sultana, Dried Apple, Apricots, Walnuts and Honey.
